Casual carpooling is a grassroots travel option. Drivers and passengers queue up during morning commute hours at more than 20 casual carpool pick-up locations. After filling with 2 passengers, the 3-person carpools commute to San Francisco taking advantage of the high occupancy vehicle lanes and reduced Bay Bridge tolls. Post-pandemic, the system has resumed in areas where demand has increased.
